Contactors in safety-related applications
Contactors are an important part of safety-related applications. They are usually devices that perform a break operation and can safely disconnect the application or system.
Contactors with mirrored contacts conforming to IEC 60947-4-1 are generally required for use in safety-related applications. The majority of Siemens contactors meet this requirement and are described in the Technical Product Data Sheet.
Contactors with enhanced anti-damage protection
By using Siemens contactor size with factory installed permanent mounting auxiliary contacts (e.g. 3RT2…To…-3MA0 contactor and 3RT1…To…-3PA0 contactor), or through the use of 3RT2916-4MA10 or 3RT1926-4MA10 seal cover attachment, can ensure increased protection against damage.
Connect the contactor to the fail-safe control module
A low-power contactor can be directly connected to the output of a failsafe controller, whereas safety-related applications using standard contactors with higher power are more complex due to the need for coupling connectors. With fail-safe control inputs, special models of specifications S6 through S12 (3RT14…S) provides a much simpler implementation.

function
The 3RT26 contactor for split capacitive load (AC-6B) is a special 3RT20 contactor for split off container groups in specifications S00 through S3.
They are designed to transmit surge currents in such applications and are fusing resistant to the relevant technical specifications.
3RT26 contactors are suitable for capacitors with or without reactor protection. They are not only used in power capacitor breaking in reactive current compensation system, but also used in frequency converter breaking control.
For 3RT26 contactor, the precharge resistor is one of its indispensable components. The precharge resistor is switched on by means of a leading auxiliary contact before the main contact is closed.During the split operation, they are decoupled after the peak current decays. The attenuation of the surge current peak can also reduce the interference harmonics in the power supply.
Note:
The 3RT26 contactor only allows switching on discharge capacitors.
It is not allowed to be functionally tested by manual operation. The series resistor shall not be removed.
Auxiliary switch
The difference of unallocated auxiliary contacts is great. Please refer to order data for available models. Can provide other different types or models of products.
In specifications S00 and S0, the auxiliary contacts clipped to the capacitor contactor consist of three lead normally open contacts and one unallocated auxiliary contact. In addition, the basic unit has one (S00) or two (S0) idle auxiliary contacts.
The corresponding model 3RT26 contactors with specifications S00 and S0 cannot be fitted with additional auxiliary contacts. For specifications S2 and S3, an optional auxiliary contact can be provided with a side auxiliary contact block. On the side, more auxiliary contacts can be installed corresponding to the 3RT20 contactor.

3RH2 contactor relays are available with screw or spring type terminals. The base unit consists of four contacts with terminal names conforming to EN 50011.
3RH2 contactor relays are suitable for use in any climate. They are safe to touch with a finger and meet IEC 60529 requirements.
The 3RH21 coupling contactor relay for switching the auxiliary circuit is customized to the specific requirements of the electronic control unit used with it.
Contact reliability
It has high contact stability when voltage and current are low. It is suitable for electronic type with current ≥ 1 mA and voltage ≥ 17 V.
Surge suppression
RC elements, rheostats, diode goods, or diode assemblies (a combination of diodes and zener diodes) can be plugged into all intermediate relays from the front to dampen the open-circuit surge current in the coil. The insertion direction is determined by the encoding device.
Coupled contactor relays have lower power consumption and extend the operating range of the solenoid coils.
Depending on the model, the supplied solenoid coil has no overvoltage drop (3RH21.. -.. HB40 and 3RH21.. -.. MB40-0KT0) and comes with a standard diode or suppressor.
The attachment
Accessories for the S00 3RT2 contactor are also available for the 3RH2 contact relays, see appendix Sirius 3RT2 contactors and Sirius 3RH2 contact relays.
Auxiliary switch
3RH21 contactor relays (other than coupling contactor relays) can be extended by up to 4 contacts by adding mountable auxiliary contacts.
The auxiliary switch can easily get stuck on the front of the contactor. The auxiliary circuit terminal has a centrally positioned release rod for disassembly.
Traditional front auxiliary contacts satisfy the characteristics of forward drive operation and are suitable for safety applications.
Contactor relays for safety-related applications
Contactors are an important part of safety-related applications. They are usually devices that perform a break operation and can safely disconnect the application or system.Contactor relays with positive drive operation conforming to IEC 60947-5-1 are normally required for use in safety-related applications. Most of Siemens contactor relays meet this requirement and are described in the Technical Product Data Sheet.
Contactor relays with improved damage protection
Increased damage protection can be ensured by the use of Siemens contactor relay models with factory mounted permanent auxiliary contacts (e.g. 3RH22 contactor relay) or by the use of 3RT2916-4MA10 seal cover accessories.

Terminal names conform to EN 50011
3TH42/3TH43 contact relays comply with EN 50011 standard for “special contact relays” with respect to their terminal name, identification number and identification letter.
Contact reliability
Due to the use of double-break contacts, high contact stability can be achieved at low voltages and currents, suitable for electronic circuits with voltages ≥ 17 V and currents ≥ 1 mA.
Surge suppression
3TH42/3TH43 contactor relays can be equipped with RC elements, rheostats, diodes or diode assemblies (one diode combined with a Zener diode) to suppress open-circuit surges.Surge suppressors can be mounted directly on the coil. See “Accessories for 3TH contactor relays and small contactor relays.”
Note:
If the contactor coil can be protected from voltage spikes (interference suppression diode for 6 to 10 times;Diode assembly for 2 to 6 cycles; The rheostat is +2 to 5 ms), the delay disconnection time for normally open contacts and the delay closure time for normally closed contacts increases.
The installation
Note:
For AC operating 3TH4 contact relays, 1.1 x Us overvoltage, ambient temperature ≥ 45°C, and 100% on-off time for all contactors, care should be taken to leave a clearance of at least 5 mm between the contactors when mounted side by side.
